We Hear: Volkswagen T-Cross Concept Coming to Geneva Auto Show

The Volkswagen T-Cross concept heading to the 2016 Geneva auto show could preview a new subcompact crossover aimed at the Mazda CX-3 and Nissan Juke, Autocar reports.

The Volkswagen Polo hatchback-based T-Cross concept will go into production in 2018, according to the report. Production of the T-Cross will begin one year after the Volkswagen Golf-based T-Roc crossover, which was shown in concept form in 2014.

“We will position production versions of the T-Cross and T-Roc underneath the Tiguan and Touareg in a part of the market that is currently experiencing large growth for SUV models, including Europe,” an unnamed Volkswagen source told Autocar.

Like the Polo and Golf hatchbacks, the T-Cross and T-Roc crossovers are based on the automaker’s flexible MQB platform. The architecture supports gas, diesel, and plug-in hybrid drivetrains as well as front- or all-wheel drive.

Like the larger T-Roc, the T-Cross concept is expected to have a full-width grille, similar side window graphic, and prominent wheel arches. Each model will feature unique body panels. The T-Roc will be around 165.4 inches overall, while the T-Cross is expected to be smaller at around 157.5 inches overall.
