At the Detroit auto show earlier this month, Jeep confirmed it will build a Hellcat-powered Jeep Grand Cherokee. Now, we have our first glimpse at what the new model will look (and sound) like.
In the video clip below, Jeep appears to be acceleration testing the high-performance Grand Cherokee, and judging from the sound of the engine, it’s definitely a supercharger under the hood. Minimal tire squeal reveals the all-wheel-drive system should be able to handle all the extra power it receives from the Hellcat engine. At the end, the camera zooms in for a close-up shot, revealing aggressive red brake calipers.
When it comes to market by 2017, expect the hot-rodded Jeep Grand Cherokee to wear a Track Hawk badge. The model will feature the same 6.2-liter supercharged V-8 found in the Dodge Charger and Challenger Hellcat. It should hit 60 mph in under 4 seconds, less than the automaker’s estimate of 4.8 seconds for the 2015 Grand Cherokee SRT. The model should complement other sport-oriented new products from Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, including a brand new Dodge Barracuda and the long rumored Fiat 124 Spider Abarth.
