To celebrate the M6 entering the 2016 WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, BMW revealed two commemorative 100th anniversary liveries, the number 25 M6 that honors the BMW 3.0 CSL’s first U.S. racing season in 1975, and the number 100, which will be wrapped in a more futuristic design.
BMW celebrates its 100th anniversary this year, so to mark the occasion it has created a new theme for the brand: “The Next 100 Years.” The liveries will emphasize the past and present of the brand, with the number 25 car featuring images of four historically significant race cars, including the BMW M1 from 1980-81, the V12 LMR from 1999, the M3 GT from 2011-12, and the previously mentioned 3.0 CSL.
The number 100 car, on the other hand, will offer a distinct design featuring a lattice work element. The significance of this new element, which uses a new 3D effect, will become clear as the year progresses, according to BMW. A reflective vinyl will be applied to the white body and will be visible under the lights at the Rolex 24 at Daytona.
Both commemorative liveries will be worn throughout the 2016 WeatherTech SportsCar Championship that kicks off January 30 with the 54th running of the 24 Hours of Daytona.
