cars news 10: Marvel at This Tiny Paper V-8 Engine (W/Video)

Working scale models of engines are always a sight to see. Miniatures that use materials like metal and plastic are impressive on their own, but can you imagine building a working engine out of something much less durable like paper? Someone on YouTube with more patience than us did just that.

The builder claims that his V-8 model is made up almost completely of paper, with just a few pieces of scotch tape used in the valves to reduce friction. From the outside, we can see cylinders, crank and cam gears, and valvetrain. When he pulls off the heads and intake manifold, we can see the pistons move in sequence as he turns the output shaft. He then flips the engine over to reveal a working crankshaft, connecting rods, and pistons.

According to the video description, the model measures 1.25 inches long, just under an inch wide, and about an inch tall. The engine runs on compressed air, a process that’s demonstrated at the end of the video. Another video throws a working paper throttle body into the system, and the result sounds remarkably similar to the real thing.
