While wood, metal, and/or painted interior trim has been around since nearly the beginning of the automobile, Bentley is now offering new stone veneers through its bespoke Mulliner Operations. The natural material, according to Bentley, is formed over 200 million years.
With an ancient and rich culture of stone masonry, Bentley sources the slate and quartzite stone from hand-selected quarries in Rajasthan and Andhra Pradesh, India. Sections of stone are cured using glass fiber and bespoke resin before being shaped and hand-finished by Mulliner craftsmen. At just 0.1 mm thick, the stone surfaces of the veneers are light and translucent, which shows off the stone’s natural grain and pattern.
“Bentley is the established expert in the handcrafting of wood and leather, and now we are exploring new, fine and rare materials to offer even more bespoke tailoring and choice to our customers,” said Geoff Dowding, Director of Mulliner Operations, in a release. “Stone veneers are another first for Bentley – but only the beginning of what we plan to do with this luxurious and unique material.”
Available through Mulliner on Continental and Flying Spur models, the stone veneers in a natural finish are offered in four different colors including Galaxy, Autumn White, Terra Red, and Copper.
