The Volvo XC90 Excellence made its U.S. debut at the New York auto show this week. Prices for the posh crossover will start at $105,895, including $995 destination charge, when it goes on sale this summer.
The hefty price tag gives it few competitors, especially considering the model doesn’t feature the same setup as a typical crossover. Unlike other XC90 models that have room for seven, the Excellence cuts down the number of seats to four so passengers can spread out. In the back of the cabin, there are two reclining seats with massage and ventilation functions, separated by a center console.
Passengers can make use of a retractable touchscreen, folding tables, and even a small refrigerator with bottle and glass holders. That’s not to mention the complementary climate-controlled cupholders and handmade crystal glasses from Swedish glass design company, Orrefors. The Volvo XC90 Excellence also boasts Nappa leather, open-pore wood, and a 20-speaker Bowers & Wilkins sound system.
“This car exposes Volvo to a new type of buyer,” said Lex Kerssemakers, president and CEO of Volvo Car USA, in a statement.
Under the sheetmetal, the range-topping XC90 packs a plug-in hybrid powertrain good for 400 hp. That’s a big jump from the base XC90, which delivers just 250 hp. Prices for the XC90 model range start at $44,945.
