Volvo announced pricing for the 2017 S90 sedan, and also introduced a new online concierge program at the 2016 New York auto show. The gas-only S90s will go on sale first with the plug-in hybrid T8 model following later in the year.
The base front-wheel-drive S90 T5 starts at $47,945, including $995 destination, and comes with a 250-hp 2.0-liter turbo-four and an eight-speed automatic transmission. Standard equipment includes the Sensus infotainment system with a nine-inch touchscreen, leather upholstery, and the “Thor’s Hammer” LED headlights. Moving up to the S90 T6 AWD, which starts at $53,945, adds the 316-hp supercharged and turbocharged 2.0-liter I-4, all-wheel drive, heated front seats, a large integrated driver information display, and integrated dual exhaust tips.
The 2017 Volvo S90 will also be the first car to come standard with semi-autonomous driving technology in the form of Pilot Assist, which enables the car to accelerate, decelerate, brake, and steer on its own at speeds of up to 80 mph. Additional safety features that will come standard in the 2017 S90 include Large Animal Detection with automatic emergency braking, and Run-Off Road Mitigation, which can detect if the car is about to leave the road and steers it back gently into the pavement.
An online concierge program has also been announced by Volvo to give a more personalized buying experience for the S90 via its consumer site. The program allows prospective buyers to purchase the car online instead of at a dealership. A designated Volvo representative will be there to ensure that customers know what options and features are available on the S90 as they order their car. The concierge will also stay in contact with the customer and notify them when their car has been shipped from Sweden, providing the day it’s expected to arrive. Once delivered, the car’s infotainment system can be personalized according to the owner’s personal preferences and delivered to the dealership of their choice. Owners will also be able to contact the Volvo concierge via online chat, phone, or email to address anything regarding the purchase of the new S90 sedan.
“We wanted to make the online experience more personalized. Cars are not your average online purchase. We believe luxury consumers of today will appreciate having a personal contact that helps you understand your options and the process,” said Lex Kerssemakers, president and CEO of Volvo Car USA, in a release. “The Volvo Concierge concept is developed based on Volvo customer feedback from previous e-commerce solutions, so truly designed around their needs and a good complement to our retail experience.”
