If the Camaro ZL1 coupe doesn’t get your adrenaline pumping enough, Chevrolet is bringing out a convertible version to satisfy your craving. The drop-top arrives in early 2017, after the coupe heads to market.
With the push of a button, drivers can raise and lower the soft top while driving at speeds up to 30 mph. The top, which folds completely flat into the hard tonneau cover, can also be lowered remotely with the keyfob.
The 2017 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 debuted earlier this month with a 6.2-liter supercharged V-8 engine good for 640 hp and 640 lb-ft of torque. Buyers can choose between a standard six-speed manual and an optional 10-speed automatic. It is said to weigh 200 pounds lighter than its predecessor for improved performance, but Chevrolet has yet to provide an estimated 0-60 mph time.
The convertible offers comparable performance to the coupe model, as only a few minor structural differences separate the two cars. Special underbody bracing should allow the convertible to maintain the same handling characteristics as the coupe, the automaker says.
The 2017 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 convertible goes on sale in early 2017. Meanwhile, the coupe version heads to market late this year.
