Ford and Spotify Team Up for Improved Multimedia Experience

Earlier this year at CES, Ford announced its FordPass app as part of its commitment to future mobility.  Now, Ford has partnered with Spotify to give FordPass members a new entertainment option. In addition to Spotify, FordPass partners include 7-Eleven, McDonald’s, and BP.

The partnership with Spotify is the first collaboration that aims to give FordPass members a better entertainment experience. Ford also plans to partner with providers of news, sports, audiobooks, and children’s programming to expand FordPass’ entertainment services and tap into the 900 hours people spend on the move. “Our goal is to light up the FordPass experience with music,” said Jorge Espinel, vice president for business development at Spotify. “We want to be everywhere fans listen to music, and this partnership deepens our relationship with Ford and FordPass members.”

Spotify is also one of the many apps that currently interacts with Ford’s Sync AppLink system, enabling drivers to project the app into the car’s infotainment screen, which they can then control using touch or voice commands. FordPass membership is free for Ford owners and non-Ford owners, and it will officially launch in April in the U.S. and Canada. FordPass will include a marketplace of mobility services to make it easier to share vehicles and pay for parking through FordPay, a virtual wallet.

Ford is the latest automaker to partner with Spotify. Last month, Volvo announced its partnership with Spotify at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona and revealed that the XC90, S90, and V90 will be the first cars to come with the Spotify app as standard in the Sensus infotainment system.
