Porsche Mission E Concept Design Process Explored in New Video

Porsche has released a new video highlighting the creation of the Mission E Concept, an all-electric vehicle that is essentially the automaker’s answer to the likes of the Tesla Model S. The clip explores how Porsche’s designers drew inspiration from past Porsches and race cars like the 919 Hybrid to create an all-electric sports sedan and a unique look for the brand’s EVs.

Key exterior details for the designers of the Porsche Mission E Concept include the car’s front fascia, which features a rounded shape like the rest of the Porsche lineup but two air intakes that route air under the headlights toward the wheel arches. The design team also mentioned that they wanted the car to be provocative but at the same time instantly recognizable as a Porsche. Details such as the four-LED headlamps, the arcing light strip in the rear, and the frameless suicide doors ensure that the car remains distinctive.

Designers took inspiration from the Porsche 911 when it came to building the Mission E’s interior. Features such as gesture control and eye recognition systems can be used to enter commands on the car’s infotainment system while a new digital display enables occupants to make inputs on the center console or the displays on the front passenger side. The sport seats, on the other hand, feature a lightweight design.

Porsche announced last year that it will bring the Mission E Concept to production and it will be its first all-electric vehicle. Production will take place at Porsche’s Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen plant where it will invest approximately 700 million euros ($759 million) and created over 1,000 jobs.
