Mercedes will bring a coupe-styled version of its compact GLC crossover to market next year. The 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe, which makes its debut at the New York auto show, uses the same engines as its traditionally bodied brother.
On the outside, the GLC300 gains 2.9 inches in length and loses 1.5 inches in height compared to the regular model. Its diamond radiator grille complements an aggressive override guard and lateral large air inlets. The coupe features a more bulbous rear end with large taillights. Its spoiler lip takes cues from the S-Class Coupe, and the license plate has been relocated to the lower section of the bumper.
Mercedes will offer two versions of the model: the GLC300 4Matic Coupe and AMG GLC43 Coupe. Both models have standard all-wheel drive and come paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission. The GLC300 packs a familiar 2.0-liter, turbo inline-four with 241 hp and 273 lb-ft of torque. A 3.0-liter, twin-turbo V-6 engine, which is also coming to the standard GLC43 model, comes to the GLC43 Coupe. That engine produces 362 hp and 384 lb-ft of torque, and according to Mercedes, it should propel the Coupe to 60 mph in less than 5 seconds.
Mercedes retuned the steering system on the GLC Coupe to give it a sportier feel over the traditional GLC. Although fuel economy has not yet been announced, the GLC Coupe benefits from aluminum and ultra high-strength steel as well as a magnesium transmission housing. To improve the drive, the model offers five transmission modes: Eco, Comfort, Sport, Sport+, and Normal.
Standard features on the GLC300 include a 7.0-inch color display, a rearview camera, a power tailgate, active brake assist, and a sunroof. Buyers can upgrade to an 8.4-inch screen with a touchpad, heated seats, ambient lighting, a head-up display, air suspension, and advanced safety features such as rear collision prevention.
When equipped with the Interior Sport package, the GLC300 receives a flat-bottom steering wheel, rubber-studded pedals, and AMG floormats. On the AMG GLC43, the package brings sport seats with either an MB-Tex/Dinamica microfiber blend or two-tone leather upholstery.
The 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe goes on sale in early 2017.
