2017 Mitsubishi Mirage G4 Heads to New York

The 2017 Mitsubishi Mirage G4 debuted at the New York auto show today as a follow-up to the Mirage hatch introduced a few years ago.

The Mirage G4 offers the same powertrain as the 2017 Mirage hatch: a 1.2-liter three-cylinder engine producing 78 hp and 74 lb-ft of torque. Mitsubishi promises the G4 will slot “at the top of its class in combined fuel efficiency.” The hatch version maxes out at 37/43/39 mpg city/highway/combined.

And like the hatch, the sedan brings Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone compatibility. But it’s not the only subcompact car to do so.

Mitsubishi introduced a refreshed 2017 Mirage hatch at the L.A. auto show last year. It debuted Mitsubishi’s new corporate grille and brought new LED taillights to the mix. It also ushered in new seat fabric, new shift panel, and other updates to the interior.

Despite complaints of its slow acceleration, the Mitsubishi Mirage has performed relatively well in terms of sales. Last year, Mitsubishi sold 21,515 copies, making it the automaker’s second best-selling model after the Outlander Sport. It’s possible that the sedan will undercut the already low price of the Mirage hatch, which comes in at $13,830. If the sedan is priced less than Nissan’s Versa sedan at $12,825, the G4 could become the least expensive car in the U.S.

The 2017 Mitsubishi Mirage G4 goes on sale this spring.
