2017 Nissan Titan Crew Cab Half-Ton Makes Public Debut in New York

Although the refreshed 2017 Nissan GT-R supercar might be getting most of the attention at the Nissan stand, the Japanese automaker also brought the standard 2017 Nissan Titan Crew Cab half-ton pickup to the 2016 New York auto show – a higher-volume model that is arguably more important to the brand’s bottom line.

Nissan revealed some info and press images of the standard half-ton Titan at the Chicago auto show last month, but this is the pickup’s first public appearance. The heavy-duty Nissan Titan XD, which is currently on sale, made its public debut at the 2015 Detroit auto show in January.

“The 2017 TITAN half-ton has the same aggressive style of the TITAN XD, but is about a foot shorter in wheelbase,” said Fred Diaz, from Nissan’s North American truck division. “They share the same cabs, but while it offers similar ruggedness and durability, the TITAN half-ton’s chassis is completely different than XD.”

At 228.1 inches long overall, the standard Titan Crew Cab is 14.7 inches shorter than the 242.8-inch long Titan XD Crew Cab.

Where the automaker’s revamped 5.6-liter Endurance V-8 is the base engine for the Titan XD, it is the optional engine on the standard Titan. The Titan XD is available with an optional 5.0-liter Cummins turbodiesel V-8 making 310 hp and 555 lb-ft of torque. A new seven-speed automatic transmission with Adaptive Shift Control and Downshift Rev Matching backs the V-8, which is rated at 390 hp and 401 lb-ft. While a base V-6 engine has been confirmed for the standard Titan pickup, details won’t be revealed until a later date.

In addition to finally showing the standard Nissan Titan Crew Cab with the optional 5.6-liter V-8, the automaker also announced pricing for the Nissan Titan XD Crew Cab with the base V-8 engine, which starts at $36,485 for a two-wheel-drive S model and goes up to $56,715 for a Platinum Reserve 4×4 before options. The Titan XD Crew Cab with the available Cummins turbodiesel engine starts at $41,485 and tops out at $61,715 before options.
