According to Autocar, Jaguar Land Rover is preparing the Range Rover Sport Coupe to launch next year and compete with the BMW X6.
The Sport Coupe will borrow its suspension and aluminum body from the Jaguar F-Pace, the report says. The model should feature six- and eight-cylinder diesel and gas engines, and possibly, the four-cylinder engines available on the F-Pace. It could also receive an electric powertrain that JLR is developing for its upcoming i-Pace EV. A hybrid powertrain could arrive in the form of a 3.0-liter V-6 hybrid system from the Range Rover Sport.
Autocar claims the new Range Rover will be slightly smaller than the BMW X6 and Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe at around 15.4 feet long. In that case, it would be longer than the Evoque yet smaller than the traditional Range Rover Sport. The Range Rover Sport Coupe could weigh as little as 1,800 kg (3,968 pounds), making it quite a bit lighter than the X6 and GLE Coupe and more of a match size-wise for the BMW X4 and Mercedes GLC Coupe.
Prices for the top Range Rover Sport Coupe could hit around 90,000 pounds, or roughly $128,000 at today’s rates. For that money, buyers should enjoy a luxurious interior with unique materials and finishes. The Sport Coupe should offer four seats in standard form, and as an option, a five-seat configuration with a 2+1 rear seat.
The model will complement the F-Pace as another road-oriented, rather than off-road-focused, vehicle in Jaguar Land Rover’s lineup.
