2016 GMC Acadia to Remain on Sale Alongside New 2017 Model

Despite being around for almost a decade, the current-generation GMC Acadia will remain on sale as the Acadia Limited alongside the new 2017 Acadia, which goes on sale this spring. A report from Automotive News states that both models will be available for sale for a limited time, which was confirmed by General Motors spokesman Brian Goebel. However, no timetable was given regarding when the older car will eventually go out of production.

The 2017 Acadia will be built in GM’s Spring Hill, Tennessee plant while the old model is manufactured in Lansing, Michigan alongside its platform mates, the Buick Encore and Chevrolet Traverse. GM’s decision to keep producing the old Acadia was to ensure that the Lansing plant kept a full production schedule since the next-generation Traverse and Enclave aren’t expected to go on sale until 2017 and will be built on a long wheelbase version of the 2017 Acadia’s platform.

Compared to the old model, the 2017 GMC Acadia is shorter by 7.2 inches in length, 3.5 inches in width, and 3.9 inches in height. The new crossover is also 700 pounds lighter and is available with seating for up to seven passengers. Two engines will be available, a 2.5-liter I-4 with 194 hp and 190 lb-ft of torque, and a new 3.6-liter V-6 rated at 310 hp and 271 lb-ft of torque.  A six-speed automatic transmission is the only gearbox available and the crossover can be had in front- or all-wheel-drive configurations.
