Ford Focus RS Will Be Offered With Factory Winter Wheel & Tire Package

Ford has announced that the Focus RS will be available with a new Winter Wheel & Tire package in North America for winter performance driving. It will be the first car in North America to feature such an option out of the factory, according to the automaker. The package will be available as an accessory that costs $1,995 in the U.S. and offered as standard in Canada.

“We started this project knowing what our RS customers really want out of their cars,” says Adam Wirth, chassis supervisor, Ford Performance. “This tire package allows RS owners to continue spirited driving even in the snow.” Ford Performance developed the Winter Wheel & Tire package so that owners can push the Focus RS to the limit in winter conditions. Ford says that it had to create a new set of performance standards specifically for winter conditions to bring this package to market, as winter-only standards for vehicle testing don’t exist yet.

Included in the Winter Wheel & Tire package are 18-inch silver-painted wheels, tire pressure monitoring sensors, center caps that are fully mounted and balanced, and Michelin Pilot Alpin PA4 tires. Unlike the standard wheels and tires on the 2016 Ford Focus RS, the Winter Wheel & Tire package comes with narrower 225/40R18 tires, and 18.7.5-inch wheels. The narrower tires provide improved traction in the snow while the smaller diameter will allow owners to fit chains to them if necessary.
