There was an important tidbit of news following yesterday’s reveal of the Volvo V90 wagon — it’s definitely coming to the U.S.
According to the automaker, the V90 lands on our shores sometime next year, most likely after the arrival of the S90 sedan. As previously reported, the V90 will ride on Volvo’s new Scalable Product Architecture (SPA) that’s also used for the S90 and our 2016 SUV of the Year, the XC90. The V90 will be Volvo’s largest wagon, slotting about the relatively compact V60.
The sleek and stylish wagon features similar design cues from the XC90 and S90, including the standout “Thor’s Hammer” headlights. The interior is a showcase of Volvo’s simple design and uses plenty of rich, high-quality materials. The V90 will have plenty of tech, too. In addition to Volvo’s latest autonomous features, the wagon will come with the automaker’s new Sensus touchscreen infotainment system and Apple CarPlay.
Volvo will announce engine choices later, though it should be offered with a base 2.0-liter turbo-four, while a range-topping plug-in hybrid powertrain should be optional. The plug-in system will likely be similar to the XC90 T8, which features a supercharged and turbocharged inline-four combined with an electric motor. We expect the V90 to get a Cross Country variant, which should give the wagon the additional ground clearance and rugged exterior accents Americans seem to love.
