It has been one year since the DS brand splintered off from Citroën, and now the French automaker’s premium marque is back with a new electric concept. The DS E-Tense electric coupe debuts at the Geneva auto show next week.
The concept’s all-electric powertrain produces 402 hp and 381 lb-ft of torque, good for an estimated 0-62 mph time of 4.5 seconds. Its lithium-ion batteries sit under the car’s carbon fiber monocoque chassis, keeping the center of gravity low and providing even torque distribution between the axles. The concept rides on Michelin Pilot Supersport tires, hinting at its athletic capabilities.
But perhaps the most interesting part of the concept is its design. On the exterior, LED daytime running lights up front rotate 180 degrees, while rear indicator lights are integrated into the roof. Along the spine of the coupe’s metallic green body is a piece of chrome that creases the car into two pieces. There’s no windscreen in the back, just a rearview camera.
DS says the interior of the cabin, which we’ll see at the Geneva show, took 800 hours to design, test, and produce. It features a steel dashboard, Focal Utopia sound system, and a watch that can be worn on the wrist or affixed to the center console. A harness that fastens to the driver’s seat also doubles as a bag to carry around town. Finishing off the interior is a 10-inch touchscreen.
The DS E-Tense can drive an estimated 224 miles while driving in the city. In mixed driving, DS estimates the E-Tense has a slightly shorter range of 193 miles.
We’ll learn more about the two-seater concept next week in Geneva. Meanwhile, watch the video below for a closer look.
