Toyota has released the first teaser for its upcoming small crossover, the C-HR. Targeted directly at the likes of the Nissan Juke, Honda HR-V, Mazda CX-3, Subaru Crosstrek, and Fiat 500X, the Toyota C-HR will slot below the larger RAV4. Last month, Toyota announced that it will enter a race-spec version of the C-HR in the Nürburgring 24 Hours endurance race.
Like the two concept cars it’s based on, the 2017 Toyota C-HR will have a distinctive coupe-like exterior design matched with rugged cues found on other crossovers. Toyota promises that the C-HR will have an engaging driving experience to match its looks. Based on the teaser shot, the C-HR will retain most of the concept car’s exterior design, swoopy silhouette, and aggressive front fascia. In terms of dimensions, the teaser suggests that this will be a city-friendly, high-riding mini crossover.
Like the fourth-generation Prius, the C-HR will ride on the TNGA platform, which will underpin the next generation of Toyota cars and crossovers. Expect the C-HR to offer a choice of hybrid and conventional gas powertrains. Production of Toyota’s newest crossover will be carried out in Europe at Toyota Motor Manufacturing Turkey’s (TMMT) plant in Sakarya, Turkey. Originally destined for Scion, the C-HR will now be sold in the U.S. under the Toyota brand since the youth-oriented marque has been killed off and three of its models will be integrated into Toyota for the 2017 model year.
