Rolls-Royce Phantom Coupe, Drophead Coupe Discontinued

Rolls-Royce has announced that the production of the current seventh-generation Phantom will come to a close this year. The automaker also announced that the Phantom Coupe and Drophead Coupe convertible will not receive successors for the eighth generation, which is scheduled to arrive in 2018 and feature an aluminum-intensive vehicle architecture. To mark the end of production, Rolls-Royce has announced a special edition for the coupe and convertible variants called the Phantom Zenith, which will be final examples of both body styles to come out of the automaker’s assembly plant in Goodwood, England.

In total, only 50 Rolls-Royce Phantom Zenith Coupes and Drophead Coupes will be produced. Unique features in the Phantom Zenith include a Tailgate Hosting area; laser-etched armrests that depict the original launch locations of the Phantom Coupe and Drophead Coupe, respectively; Bespoke instrument dials; a unique Spirit of Ecstasy figurine; and a “money cannot buy” portable memento.

“As the name promises, Zenith will be the pinnacle; the best of its kind; the highest standard achievable by which everything else is judged,” said Giles Taylor, Director of Design at Rolls-Royce. “Zenith will be the sum of all the best features of Phantom Coupe and Drophead Coupe, with a few surprises added. We expect huge demand for these 50 fine automobiles as we shall not look upon their like again.”

Like the Phantom Coupe and Drophead Coupe, the Phantom sedan will also end production this year and the last cars produced will get some special touches from Rolls-Royce’s Bespoke design department to make the most unique version of the seventh-generation model yet. No replacements are planned for the Phantom Coupe and Drophead Coupe, leaving the Wraith and Dawn as the only coupe and convertible in Rolls-Royce’s lineup.
