The Aston Martin DB11, the successor to the aging DB9, has been spotted once again. This time, Aston’s future 2+2 was caught in the midst of winter testing in frigid Luleå, Sweden.
We’re told the car is bound for Ivalo, Finland, where it will be put to the test in temperatures well below freezing. Our spy shooter is none other than Motor Trend alumnus Jim Gleason, who also got to ride in the car. “It’s super-smooth,” he reports. “The V-12 sounds growly despite turbos.”
We know a little bit about that engine thanks to a few details revealed by Aston Martin last month. The automaker’s next-gen V-12 displaces 5.2 liters and is aided by twin turbochargers. Though output isn’t known, we expect the turbos to boost both horsepower and efficiency beyond the current DB9 GT’s 540 hp and 15-mpg EPA combined rating. In addition to that engine, a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V-8 sourced from Mercedes will also be available. Both engines could be mated to a ZF-sourced eight-speed transmission.
Once it’s done testing in the harsh winter of Scandinavia, this mule is destined for extreme heat testing in Arizona this June. We should see the Aston Martin DB11 fully revealed soon, so stay tuned.
