BMX bike champ and former Subaru Rallycross driver Dave Mirra has died in an apparent in an apparent suicide. The Associated Press reports Mirra was found dead in his truck on Thursday from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was 41 years old.
Starting with the inaugural X Games in 1995, Mirra took home medals in various BMX events every year until 2008. He won a total of 24 medals at the X Games, 14 of which are golds. In addition to being proficient on two wheels, Mirra was also a talented driver. He joined Subaru Rally Team USA in 2011, piloting a WRX STI to an eighth-place finish in the Global RallyCross Championship that year. In the Rally America series, he finished fourth. Mirra left the team in 2013, reportedly due to budget reasons.
