Although prototypes for the all-new Porsche Panamera sedan have been spotted out in the wild, our spy photographer has spotted a test mule for the shooting brake variant. The Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo concept was first seen at the 2012 Paris auto show.
The Panamera Sport Turismo’s reshaped fastback wagon roofline is easy to spot next to the regular fastback hatch shape of the regular Panamera sedan prototype, though it’s unclear how much of that is just body cladding. While it appears both body styles share the same rear doors, the roofline aft of the C-pillar blends into a D-pillar on the Sport Turismo model. Unlike the exposed quarter-window on the sedan, Porsche ensured the shape of the rear quarter-window on the shooting brake concept was well concealed.
Like the upcoming redesigned Panamera sedan, the Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo will share the Volkswagen Group’s new MSB (modular rear-wheel-drive component set) architecture as well as its revised powertrain options. While the relatively new twin-turbo 3.0-liter V-6 is expected to carry over from the current model, higher trim levels will be available with a new twin-turbo 4.0-liter V-8 that replaces the current Panamera sedan’s naturally aspirated 4.8-liter V-8. The new 4.0-liter is rumored to produce as much as 600 hp in the Turbo model.
The Panamera sedan and Panamera Sport Turismo will also be offered with a choice of turbodiesel engines including a 3.0-liter V-6 and a 4.0-liter V-8 making as much as 326 hp and 450 hp, respectively. Two hybrid options could be offered: the first uses an Audi-designed 2.9-liter twin-turbo V-6 making around 330 hp and the second is a 4.0-liter V-8 said to make around 475 hp and 600 lb-ft. The concept’s e-Hybrid, or PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle), drivetrain is also possible.
