A report from Auto Express states that Tesla won’t reveal everything about the Model 3 sedan in March. Speaking at an even at Tesla’s European base in Chambourcy, France, CEO Elon Musk hinted that the Model 3’s unveiling will be staggered like the Model X. Musk said that in March the automaker will reveal the first photos of the Model 3, which will be pitted against the BMW 3 Series, Audi A4, and Mercedes-Benz C-Class. Additional information regarding the Model 3 will be released closer to the car’s start of production in 2017.
Deliveries for the Tesla Model 3 aren’t expected to start until the middle of 2017 and will be powered by batteries produced in the automaker’s gigafactory, which is supposed to come online this year. No technical details will be released at the Model 3’s reveal event in March, but expect the car to have semi-autonomous driving technologies available when it launches. While the Model 3 isn’t expected to get the 90-kWh battery that’s used on the Model S and Model X, the car will likely have the same range as its larger siblings or more. Owners of the Model 3 will also be able to use Tesla’s Supercharger network for free.
Tesla’s smallest sedan will ride on a new third-generation platform and is rumored to be priced around $35,000 before any rebates or credits are applied. Last year, we also reported that the Tesla Model 3 will spawn a crossover variant after the sedan.
