The new season of “Top Gear” is scheduled to launch in May 2016, and there’s new speculation regarding three possible co-hosts who will present alongside Chris Evans.
Among them is Chris Harris, a British automotive journalist, and Sabine Schmitz, a professional race car driver from Germany who currently drives for both Porsche and BMW. Rumors also suggest that Formula 1 veteran David Coulthard will also join the team. Meanwhile, main host Chris Evans is a car enthusiast known for his extensive collection of vintage cars.
Evans hasn’t said much about the plans for the show. Since his appointment in June, rumors have swirled around a number of other possible co-hosts, including Formula 1 champion Jenson Button and actor Philip Glenister.
The show is also dealing with two significant departures from its staff. The Telegraph reports that the show’s executive producer, Lisa Clark, has resigned just five months into her role, while script editor Tom Ford is also stepping down.
Meanwhile, the original “Top Gear” hosts – Jeremy Clarkson, James May, and Richard Hammond – are still slated to launch their new show via Amazon Prime sometime next year. Earlier this year, Clarkson split from “Top Gear” and the BBC after an altercation with a producer. May and Hammond left the show shortly after.
