Mercedes U.S. Boss Stephen Cannon Leaves Job for Atlanta Falcons

Stephen Cannon, president and CEO of Mercedes-Benz USA, will leave the company after four years on the job. The automaker has appointed Dietmar Exler, current sales boss of MBUSA, as his successor.

Cannon won’t be far from the Mercedes-Benz U.S. headquarters when he moves on to lead AMB Group, the company that owns the Atlanta Falcons. According to AMB Group, Cannon will be in charge of all business operations for the football team as well as the Atlanta United FC of Major League Soccer and the Atlanta Falcons Stadium Company. The latter company is developing the Mercedes-Benz Stadium, which is scheduled to open in 2017.

Exler will take over as MBUSA president and CEO starting January 1, continuing his long career with the company. Beginning in 2002, he held several high-ranking positions for the then DaimlerChrysler Financial sector before being appointed vice president for Mercedes-Benz Financial Services USA in 2010. Since 2014, he has led MBUSA’s sales team. Exler is originally from Austria.
