Explore the 2017 Volvo S90’s Design Language in New Videos

Volvo has recently released two videos that give a detailed look at their new flagship sedan, the 2017 S90. Like its three-row sibling, the XC90, the S90 features a restrained but tasteful design inside and out that makes the car look elegant. Minimalism remains a constant theme in both videos as the camera highlights every angle of the S90’s exterior and the simple but attractive interior design.

Titled “The Beauty of Simplicity: Exploring the Design Language of the New Volvo S90,” the first video explores the S90’s exterior appearance and Volvo’s new design direction. Up front, the Thor’s hammer LED lighting gives the S90 a strong presence and an identity that sets itself apart as a member of the new generation of Volvos. The video also looks at the S90’s side profile to highlight the restrained exterior design and its swoopy coupe-like roofline. Shots of the car’s rear, on the other hand, clearly show the influence of the Volvo Concept Coupe, which was shown at the 2013 Frankfurt auto show. Other details highlighted by the exterior video overview include the revised iron mark logo and the new grille that first appeared in production form on the 2016 XC90.

Moving on to the S90’s cabin, the second video, called “Dreams Become Real: Inside the New Volvo S90,” continues with the theme of minimalism and shows the elegant cabin design. Highlights include the redesigned seats that were first seen on the 2016 XC90 and the large 9-inch tablet-style touchscreen that dominates as the centerpiece of the dashboard. Additionally, the video also takes a closer look at the Nordic wood used throughout the S90’s cabin, metal trim pieces, seat stitching, the speakers for the Bowers & Wilkins premium audio system, and the mini touchscreen for rear passengers’ climate controls.

Look for the 2017 Volvo S90 to greet the public at the 2016 Detroit auto show. Expect powertrain choices in the U.S. to include the 316-hp supercharged and turbocharged T6 2.0-liter I-4 and the 400-hp T8 plug-in hybrid with both paired exclusively to an eight-speed automatic.
