Spied: Lincoln Continental Prototype Looks a Lot Like the Concept

Our spy photographers recently spotted a Lincoln Continental prototype out testing, and for the most part, it looks quite similar to the concept we saw at the New York auto show earlier this year. Minus the graphic wrap, this prototype gives us a clear indication of what to expect for the final production version.

The model sports a similar set of “ice-cube” front lights, although the chrome detailing we saw on the original concept’s grille is blacked out on this test mule. Lincoln has also toned down the wheels, giving the model a slightly more conventional look. From the rear, the spy car features a familiar taillight design but appears a bit broader in its overall shape.

If you look closely at the side of the vehicle, you’ll notice unique door handles that sit high on the beltline. This setup is an adaptation of the “winglet handles” found high on the beltline of the concept version.

The production Continental will feature a new turbocharged 3.0-liter EcoBoost V-6 engine exclusive to the Lincoln brand, likely related to the unit that just debuted in the 2017 Lincoln MKZ. It should be front- or all-wheel drive. Lincoln is betting on China as a major market for the Continental, thanks in part to its spacious backseat and expected luxurious appointments. While the concept featured everything from a champagne refrigerator to 30-way adjustable seats, we’ll have to wait and see exactly which features make their way to production.
