A 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona found in a rural Alabama barn is heading to auction. Up for sale by Mecum Auctions, the unrestored, numbers-matching Mopar muscle car is expected to fetch $150,000 to $180,000. Our sister magazine Mopar Muscle helped track down the rare car last month.
Originally purchased by a local judge for his wife, the car was sold in 1974 to its second owner, who eventually parked it in the barn. The car came from the factory sporting R4 Charger Red paint with white tail graphics. The original nose cone, front fender bubbles, wide windshield edge trim, and large rear wing are still present, and the exterior now features that patina barn find-lovers dream about. Non-factory details include light scallop-edge door paint and flames. The odometer shows just 20,553, which is believed to be the actual mileage.
The numbers-matching car features the original Dodge 440-cubic-inch Magnum V-8 that was only available for Daytona and R/T models. A three-speed TorgueFlite automatic transmission and 8.75-inch rear differential complete the drivetrain.
Inside, the car came from the factory with front bucket seats with headrests, a center console with chrome floor shifter, and dash cluster with clock and tachometer. While the factory radio remains, aftermarket door-mounted speakers have been added.
The car is just one of 503 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona models built to homologate the Daytona body for NASCAR, which required a minimum of 500 units. You can read more about the barn find Daytona on the Hot Rod Network.
