cars news 10: Report: Aston Martin DB11 Coming to Geneva

The all-new Aston Martin DB11 will debut at the 2016 Geneva auto show, Automotive News reports. Set to go on sale in the third quarter of this year, the new DB11 is the first of several all-new models that will replace the British sports car maker’s aging fleet.

As the replacement for the aging DB9, the all-new DB11 will be the first model built on the automaker’s new aluminum bonded platform. The DB11 will go on sale in the third quarter of 2016, while replacements for the entry-level Vantage and flagship Vanquish models will arrive before 2018, according to the report. Those models will also move to the new platform, which replaces the automaker’s current VH architecture.

Although images and details of the new DB11 haven’t been revealed, the automaker plans to make its new models more distinguishable from each other.

“One could argue there is not enough separation between DB9 and Vantage,” Aston Martin CEO Andy Palmer told journalists at a press event. “One could easily cross-shop between the two.”

The new Aston Martin DB11 will be offered with the automaker’s all-new twin-turbo 5.2-liter V-12, which replaces the automaker’s aging Ford-derived 5.9-liter V-12 engine. A Mercedes-AMG-sourced twin-turbo 4.0-liter V-8 is also possible for the new model. Mercedes will also supply Aston Martin with electrical systems including infotainment systems and active safety tech.

Aston Martin will follow its three new sports cars with the production version of the DBX SUV and new Lagonda flagship sedan that will compete with Bentley and Rolls-Royce. Electric versions of the DBX, Rapide, and Lagonda are expected to roll out starting in 2018.
