320,000 Toyota, Lexus Trucks and SUVs Recalled for Curtain Airbag Issue

Toyota and its luxury brand, Lexus, are recalling roughly 320,000 trucks and SUVs for a problem with the side curtain airbag system, which could activate seat belt pretensioners when not needed. Meanwhile, FCA is voluntarily recalling more than 441,000 Dodge Chargers for being unstable when the factory jack is used to lift the car.

Toyota and Lexus Trucks

The Problem: Certain Toyota Land Cruiser, 4Runner, Tundra, Sequoia; and Lexus LX 470 and GX 470 trucks and SUVs are equipped with a side curtain airbag system that is improperly programmed. As a result, under “specific and limited conditions” after startup the seat belt pretensioners can activate when not necessary, increasing the risk of injury to passengers.

The Fix: Toyota will notify owners by first class mail, and dealers will replace the airbag control module with one with improved programming. For more information, owners can call Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331 or Lexus customer service at 1-800-255-3987.

Number of Vehicles Potentially Affected: The recall affects approximately 320,000 Toyota and Lexus vehicles, including 2003-2006 Land Cruiser, 2004-2006 4Runner, 2005-2006 Tundra and Sequoia, 2003-2006 Lexus LX 470, and 2004-2006 GX 470 models.

2011-2016 Dodge Charger

The Problem: Certain model-year 2011-2016 Dodge Charger sedans can come off the manufacturer-supplied tire jack when lifted. FCA is aware of three minor injuries related to the issue.

The Fix: The company will supply wheel chocks for use when changing a tire. The chocks are intended to be used on the wheel diagonally opposite of the wheel being changed and will help stabilize the vehicle. FCA notes that the owner’s manual already recommends using such chocks. Owners can contact FCA customer service at 1-800-853-1403 for more details.

Number of Vehicles Potentially Affected: The recall affects 441,578 model-year 2011-2016 Dodge Chargers in the U.S. Additionally, the recall applies to an estimated 19,229 cars in Canada; 4,969 cars in Mexico; and 38,947 cars outside the NAFTA region.
