Since it first debuted late last year, the 10th-generation 2016 Honda Civic has been touted by many as a return to form for the compact car. The new model is the first vehicle in Honda’s U.S. lineup to feature an available turbocharged engine, a four-cylinder unit rated at 174 hp and 162 lb-ft of torque and hooked up to a CVT. But a new video hints that it might make a bit more than that
Renowned Honda tuner Hondata recently posted a video of a 2016 Civic Touring at the dyno, where it measured how much power the car is really making at the wheels. The results are nothing short of impressive because, according to the dyno chart, the 2016 Civic makes 177 hp and 190 lb-ft of torque at the wheels. The tester notes that the torque is higher than Honda’s published numbers, but that the discrepancy could be due to Honda’s numbers being generated on an engine dyno. Hondata also compared the new Civic turbo with a ninth-generation Civic Si on the drag strip and found that the 2016 Civic with the turbo-four was quicker to accelerate despite having less horsepower.
In Motor Trend testing, the 2016 Honda Civic sedan accelerated from 0-60 mph in 7.2 seconds and ran the quarter mile in 15.5 seconds at 92.4 mph, making it one of the quickest non-performance-trim compact cars we’ve ever tested. Along with the sedan, the Civic will also be offered as a coupe and a hatchback that will be previewed in prototype form at the 2016 Geneva auto show. Two performance variants, the Civic Si and, for the first time in North America, the Civic Type R will round out the Civic range.
