Volvo S60, V60 Polestar Get New 367-HP Drive-E Four-Cylinder Engine

Volvo has revealed an updated version of the S60 and V60 Polestar performance models, which are now powered by the automaker’s new Drive-E engine family. Replacing the old 3.0-liter turbo-six is a 2.0-liter supercharged and turbocharged I-4 rated at 367 hp and 347 lb-ft of torque, which is up 22 hp but down 22 lb-ft. Both cars mark the globalization of the Polestar brand because they will be sold in 47 markets while production volume increases to 1,500 units from 750.

“While used in vastly different ways, these cars share more than just technology. The core philosophy is the same, developed by people with the same passion. It is about creating performance that can be used in all situations, no matter if it’s about winning a championship or being able to enjoy a safe, functional and fun-to-drive car all year,” said Thed Bjoerk, Polestar Cyan Racing race and development driver.

The Drive-E engine has been used in standard S60 and V60 models before, but the Polestar variants receive a bigger turbocharger, larger air intake, a higher-capacity fuel pump, new connecting rods, and new camshafts. In addition, the eight-speed automatic transmission has been revised by Polestar for improved performance. Both cars come standard with all-wheel drive and are estimated by Volvo to do 0-60 mph in 4.7 seconds. Polestar has also reduced both cars’ weight by 44 pounds compared to the outgoing six-cylinder-powered models. Additional new features include a lightweight 20-inch alloy wheel, a specially calibrated electro-assisted power steering system, and 371-mm slotted brake discs.
