10 Cars and Crossovers That Didn’t Age Well

A vehicle’s design can be hit or miss over the long run; some will age gracefully while others won’t. Even if its appearance is stunning the first year out, there’s no guarantee it will stand the test of time. Here’s our list of 10 cars and crossovers that look much older than they actually are.

Honda Civic, 2012-2015

Perhaps the most critically panned iteration of the Honda Civic, the ninth-generation car underwent an emergency face-lift one year after it was introduced. However, even with the refresh (pictured here), this Civic didn’t age well.

Scion TC, 2011-2016

Compared to the first-generation car, the second-generation Scion TC was a step back from the car it replaced. In a bid to make the car more masculine, the second version’s design is less distinctive, while the flattened roof gave it an awkward silhouette — like a massive boulder fell on it.

Nissan Rogue Select

Compared to the second-generation Rogue, the first generation, which Nissan now sells as the budget-minded Rogue Select, aged quickly. Despite its curvaceous exterior, the cheese grater-like grille and the car’s chunky proportions didn’t help.

Mitsubishi Mirage

The Mitsubishi Mirage looks like a subcompact car that time traveled from the 1990s, as basic as small cars get with an uninspiring exterior design. A refresh for 2017 has somewhat improved the Mirage’s looks, but it’s still plain and looks like it’s a decade old.

Fiat 500L

Even though it debuted in 2013, the Fiat 500L already looks outdated. The design cues borrowed from the diminutive 500 hatchback didn’t translate well into the taller, more minivan-like proportions of the 500L, giving it a more polarizing appearance.

Hyundai Sonata, 2009-2014

The sixth-generation Hyundai Sonata shocked the world because it helped changed consumers’ perceptions of Hyundai. Despite its aggressive and sexy styling, the sixth-generation Sonata’s exterior looks overstyled compared to the classier, more upscale seventh-generation model.

Honda Crosstour, 2009-2015

Honda’s Crosstour was essentially a car in the midst of transforming into a crossover that never finished evolving. The car’s controversial turtle-like exterior is truly cringe-worthy.

Nissan Juke

Perhaps the most polarizing vehicle available today, the Nissan Juke looks like a robotic frog. The quirky amphibious android exterior makes the Juke look old by modern standards.

Mitsubishi i-Miev

If there’s a car that’s essentially a glorified golf cart, it’s the Mitsubishi i-Miev. The exterior appearance alone reminds you of an egg – an egg with wheels that goes 62 miles per charge. Even in colors other than white, there’s no escaping that the i-Miev past its due date.

Acura ZDX, 2010-2013

Acura tried to copy the BMW X6 with the ZDX, but the pointy, angular exterior design didn’t translate too well. Add to that Acura’s controversial beak grille, and the ZDX rolled out of the factory with a date design. It was eventually discontinued in 2013.
