Acura CDX Debuts in China with Precision-Like Styling

The new face of Acura has made an appearance again, and this time it’s on a new compact crossover unveiled at this week’s 2016 Beijing auto show. Making its world debut is the Acura CDX, which features turbocharged four-cylinder and a dual-clutch automatic.

The CDX borrows styling cues from the Acura Precision concept car first shown at the 2016 Detroit auto show in January. Acura previously hinted that the CDX would be the first production model to receive Precision-inspired styling, but that honor actually went to the top-selling MDX as part of a significant makeover unveiled last month. The most notable design feature cribbed from the Precision is the pentagon grille and its oversized Acura badge and diamond-like accents. The CDX also features Acura’s signature Jewel Eye headlights, while the back end looks similar to the RDX.

Acura says the CDX is powered by a 1.5-liter turbo-four engine that’s mated to an eight-speed, dual-clutch automatic. The automaker hasn’t released full specs on the powertrain, but the turbo-four could make around 170 hp, while front- or all-wheel drive layouts should be offered.

This will be the first Acura model produced in China. For now, it’ll only be sold in China, too, though that could change if Acura sees a need to compete with the Audi Q3, BMW X1, and other luxury compact crossovers gaining popularity across the globe including the U.S.
