2016 Lagonda Taraf by Aston Martin Driven on Ignition (W/Video)

The new 2016 Lagonda Taraf by Aston Martin is the world’s most expensive four-door sedan. In fact, it’s the first sedan priced at $1 million. On the 150th episode of Ignition, Jonny Lieberman drives the limited-production Lagonda Taraf around Great Britain to see if the four-door is worth the price of entry.

After a brief history lesson about the Lagonda brand, Lieberman points out the bespoke virtues of the new Taraf. The new model is built in the same facility as the limited-production Aston Martin One-77 hypercar.

Based on a stretched version of Aston Martin’s NV architecture, the Lagonda Taraf rides on a long 125.6-inch wheelbase, giving it more rear seat legroom than a Mercedes-Benz S-Class sedan. The automaker claims the aluminum intensive chassis and 100-percent carbon fiber body gives the large sedan a 4,387-pound curb weight. Power for the Lagonda Taraf comes from Aston Martin’s naturally aspirated 5.9-liter V-12 mated to a rear-mounted ZF eight-speed automatic transmission. The high-strung 12-cylinder is rated at 540 hp and 465 lb-ft of torque.

Out on the road, the long-wheelbase Lagonda Taraf rides and handles much better than expected – even with the suspension in “Normal” mode. Lieberman, however, puts the engine and transmission in Sport mode. While the less-than-stellar gauges and infotainment system carry over from other Aston Martin vehicles, the new ZF-sourced transmission improves drivability.

Check out the video below to hear Lieberman’s final thoughts on the Lagonda Taraf and whether or not he thinks the ultra-luxury sedan is worth a cool $1 million.
