The Avancier will go on sale by the end of this year as Honda’s new flagship SUV in China. The model makes its formal debut at the Beijing auto show this week.
The SUV is Honda’s first model in China to feature a 2.0-liter turbo engine. It will also feature Honda Sensing safety technologies and an upscale interior.
At first glance, the Honda Avancier looks like a CR-V. But the Avancier will slot above that model, complete with updated wheels and headlights that scream Acura. The SUV is a follow-up to the Honda Concept D that debuted last year with a wind-swept design and raked roofline.
At the Beijing show, Honda is also showing off a small Acura crossover called the CDX, which also features a turbo-four. The automaker will also bring out the new Accord Hybrid, the first hybrid model Honda will produce locally in China.
“We view 2016 as a year for us to make another leap forward,” Honda CEO Takahiro Hachigo said in a statement. “We will begin local production of our hybrid vehicle and turbo engines and further accelerate the localization of our business.”
The Beijing auto show starts today and runs through may 4.
