Infiniti has taken the wraps off the QX Sport Inspiration Concept ahead of its official debut at the 2016 Beijing auto show. Featuring Infiniti’s “Powerful Elegance” design language, the car showcases plenty of flowing lines and proportions that are muscular. Infiniti says this concept previews a next-generation premium SUV, likely the successor to the QX70.
“The QX Sport Inspiration is a statement of intent from Infiniti, showcasing a daring design philosophy and a demonstration of our capabilities in the mid-size SUV segment,” said Roland Krueger, president of Infiniti.
Key design cues include headlight clusters inspired by those found on the Infiniti Q80 Inspiration Concept that was revealed at the 2014 Paris auto show. The QX Sport Inspiration’s grille, however, is larger while the front fascia features two vertically positioned air intakes. From the side, the QX Sport Inspiration looks like a larger QX30 crossover and features the same unique kink that’s also used on the three-row QX60.
“The QX Sport Inspiration expresses power and purpose through what we describe as its ‘proportional clarity,’ with an elegance that is uniquely Infiniti. The exterior design will appeal to an artistic sensibility. It has a more flowing, natural aesthetic than that evident in traditional premium SUVs,” said Infiniti Executive Design Director Alfonso Albaisa, in a release.
Inside, the QX Sport Inspiration has a driver-centric layout featuring a center stack that’s tilted slightly toward the driver and a flat-bottom steering wheel. Unique design cues include a flying buttress that connects the center console to the dash, a fully digital gauge cluster, two-tone black/white interior color, and diamond patterns on the center console and door panels.
