Following the debut of the 718 Boxster, Porsche has unveiled the 718 Cayman, now entering its third generation. The mid-engine sports coupe receives a more aggressive exterior design, new chassis tuning, redesigned interior, and lower starting price than the roadster.
Like the 718 Boxster, the Porsche 718 Cayman S will be powered by a 2.5-liter turbocharged flat-four that produces 350 hp and 309 lb-ft of torque, while the base Cayman will be powered by the 2.0-liter flat-four, offering up 300 hp and 280 lb-ft. Both engines are equipped with an integrated wastegate for optimized boost pressure for all driving situations. Expect the 718 Cayman to hit 0-60 mph in 4.5 seconds when equipped with PDK and the optional Sport Chrono Package, with the Cayman S doing the same in 4.0 seconds. Top track speeds for the 718 Cayman and Cayman S are 170 and 177 mph, respectively.
The 718 Cayman’s exterior features more prominent air intakes on the sides and in the front, with a low side profile. The front fascia has a wider, muscular appearance with slim front lights. The third-gen will offer Bi-Xenon headlights with integrated LED DRLs. Customers can choose LED headlights with four-point daytime running lights. At the rear, the high-gloss black accent strip with integrated Porsche logo makes for a wider appearance, while the taillights have been completely redesigned with a three-dimensional look and four-point brake lights.
Inside, the automaker has added Porsche Communication Management (PCM), and an eight-speaker Sound Package Plus audio system as standard features. The 718 Cayman benefits from the 918 Spyder design sport steering wheel, new air vents, and extensive connectivity options. The PCM system will offer extensions for smartphones, with a USB port, Apple CarPlay, and Porsche Car Connect. Optional features will include navigation with voice control, the Porsche Connect App, and Porsche Car Connect.
The third-gen Porsche 718 Cayman will have a starting price of $54,950, including delivery charges, while the 718 Cayman S will start at $67,350. Both models will go on sale in the U.S. this November.
