cars news 10: First Chevy Corvette Grand Sport Collector’s Edition to be Auctioned

This Friday during the Barrett-Jackson auction in Palm Beach, Fla., Chevrolet will auction off the first production version of the 2017 Corvette Grand Sport Collector’s Edition. All proceeds will support the Karmanos Cancer Institute.

Last year, Chevrolet auctioned off the first Cadillac CT6 luxury sedan to support Karmanos, which is one of only 45 National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer centers in the country. All proceeds from the sale of the 2017 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport Collector’s Edition will benefit the Institute.

The Corvette Grand Sport, which debuted at last month’s Geneva auto show, blends elements of the Stingray and Z06 to create a variant that slots between those two models. The Collector’s Edition features a Watkins Glen Gray Metallic exterior with Tension Blue hash-mark graphics, satin black full-length stripes, black wheels, and an exclusive Tension Blue full leather and suede-wrapped interior. The Grand Sport Collector’s Edition will be a limited-production addition to the Corvette lineup.

Under the hood rests a naturally aspirated 6.2-liter LT1 V-8 engine that delivers 460 hp and 465 lb-ft of torque, which uses a dry-sump oil system to keep up with the Grand Sport’s high levels of performance. Both the coupe and convertible Grand Sport models will go on sale this summer in the U.S. and this fall in Europe. The Collector’s Edition will be offered at a later date.
