Is it possible for a production car to look better than the concept? With the 2017 Infiniti Q60, the answer might be yes.
The 2017 Q60 isn’t scheduled to go on sale until next year, but a spy photographer caught the coupe in what appears to be a promotional photo shoot for Infiniti’s upcoming two-door. As Infiniti promised, the production version isn’t too far removed from the concept we saw at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show. The profile is full of drama, from the deep crease below the beltline to Infiniti’s signature crescent cut treatment at the C-pillar. Out back, the integrated rear deck spoiler looks sharp, as do the thin taillights. The interior design should mimic the Q50 sedan.
The “3.0t” badge on the front fender confirms the Q60’s new 3.0-liter twin-turbo V-6, a much-needed upgrade for Infiniti’s powertrain arsenal. Rumors suggest the engine will make around 375 hp, which is a big improvement over the 330-hp, 3.7-liter naturally aspirated V-6 powering the current Q60 (previously known as the G37 coupe). A Mercedes-sourced 2.0-liter turbo-four will also be offered.
The obvious targets for the 2017 Infiniti Q60 are the BMW 4 Series, Mercedes-Benz C-Class coupe, and the Lexus RC. It’s too soon to say how the Q60 will compare when it comes to performance, but it should grab a lot of attention based on styling alone.
