Since its return to the U.S., Alfa Romeo has only offered one model, the 4C. Now, the Italian automaker will have another model joining its lineup in the form of the Giulia sedan which will compete against its German rivals.
In high-performance Quadrifoglio trim, the rear-wheel drive sport sedan will be powered by a Ferrari-derived twin-turbo V-6 engine that delivers 505 hp. According to Alfa, the Quadrifoglio will sprint from 0-60 mph in 3.8 seconds and have a top speed of 191 mph. Thanks to cylinder deactivation technology, the Giulia has the ability to reduce fuel consumption by up to 15 percent. Next summer, Alfa Romeo will add a new engine to the lineup, an all-new, all-aluminum 2.0-liter direct-injected turbo engine that will produce 276 hp. An all-wheel drive powertrain will also make its way into the lineup on models equipped with the four-cylinder engine.
Alfa says the Giulia sedan will have a best-in-class power-to-weight ratio at nearly 7 pounds per hp, thanks to the new “Giorgio” architecture’s lightweight design and low center of gravity. The model will also feature a carbon fiber hood, roof, drive shaft, active aero front splitter, and rear spoiler. The front and rear vehicle frames, front shock towers, brakes, suspension components, doors, and fenders will be made out of aluminum to further the weight savings.
To keep drivers and passengers safe, the Alfa Romeo Giulia features a handful of safety systems, including full-speed forward collision warning, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, along with standard blind spot monitoring, rear cross path detection, and front- and rear-park assist sensors.
