GMC Unveils Canyon Denali and Sierra Denali Ultimate Models

Ahead of the 2015 Los Angeles Auto Show, GMC has pulled back the covers on the 2017 Canyon Denali and 2016 Sierra Denali Ultimate. Both vehicles will make their official debut tonight, showcasing what separates Denali models from the rest of the lineup.

The 2017 GMC Canyon Denali will feature a unique chrome grille and 20-inch ultra-bright-machined aluminum wheels with painted accents, along with chrome fog lamp bezels, 5-inch chrome assist steps, polished exhaust tip, and standard spray-in bed liner. Offered in six exterior colors, the Canyon Denali will also offer standard safety features like forward collision alert and lane departure warning, as well as a heated steering wheel, GMC IntelliLink with Navigation, OnStar 4G LTE, automatic climate control, remote start, and more.

The Denali trim will only be offered on crew cab models with either two- or four-wheel drive. Customers will have the option of two engines, including the standard 3.6-liter V-6 engine that offers up to 7,000 pounds of trailering capabilities, along with an EPA-estimated 26 mpg highway on 2WD models. The 2.8-liter Duramax turbodiesel is also available, which ups the towing capabilities to 7,700 pounds, and gets 31 mpg highway with the 2WD configuration.

The new 2016 GMC Sierra Denali Ultimate builds upon the luxury and capability of the Denali package, and will only be offered on four-wheel-drive 1500 crew cab models with either a 5’8” or 6’6” cargo bed. The new model gets 22-inch wheels with chrome or black inserts, standard sunroof, and chrome tow hooks. Standard technology includes Tri-Mode Power Steps, lane keep assist, and IntelliBeam automatic headlamp control. Also standard on the new Denali Ultimate is an integrated trailer brake controller and magnetic ride control.

The Sierra Denali Ultimate will be powered by the standard 5.3-liter V-8 paired with the Hydra-Matic 8L90 eight-speed automatic transmission. Customers can also opt for the larger 6.2-liter V-8 paired with the eight-speed auto transmission, which gives the highest output of 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque in the light-duty segment. Active noise cancellation is featured with the 6.2-liter engine.

The Denali Ultimate wears the face-lifted front end styling introduced on all 2016 model-year Sierra trucks, which includes high-performance LED headlamps, GMC LED signature lighting, and a new grille. Android Auto will come later in the model year, but the Sierra Denali Ultimate will feature standard OnStar 4G LTE with hotspot, Bose premium sound system, wireless phone charging, remote start, power-adjustable pedals, power-sliding rear window with defogger, and a rearview camera with dynamic guidelines.

The 2017 GMC Canyon Denali will go on sale late next year, while the 2016 GMC Sierra Denali Ultimate will hit showroom floors in the first quarter of next year.
