Cadillac Teases OLED Instrument Screen of New Pebble Beach Concept

Details on the vehicle debuts set for Monterey Car Week are beginning to trickle in. We just learned about a radical new Mercedes-Maybach coupe concept, and now Cadillac is teasing a design concept that will be unveiled in Monterey later this week.

In a video posted to YouTube, Cadillac shows us the concept’s instrument screen, which vaguely reminds us of the double-wide gauge display in the Mercedes-Benz S-Class. The video description says the concept will feature “an array of curved OLED screens, co-developed with LG Electronics.” OLED, or Organic Light-Emitting Diode, lighting technology has been used in cutting-edge home electronics, but so far hasn’t found much use in the automotive sphere. The 2014 Audi Prologue concept featured OLED screens, and both Audi and BMW have experimented with OLED taillights. Cadillac says the technology is being developed for a future production vehicle.

The screen in the Cadillac design concept sticks out from the dash and is nearly free-standing. The back of the screen is bound in leather with decorative stitching and features Cadillac lettering. Meanwhile, the dash appears to be wrapped in wood trim.

Cadillac will reveal the new concept live on its Facebook page on Thursday, August 18 at 10:45 p.m. EST/7:45 p.m. PST. As for what model it might preview, Cadillac CEO Johan de Nysschen has said in the past that there’s room at the top of the lineup for a flagship sedan, possibly named CT8.
