2016 Lexus LX 570 Goes Off-Road on New Ignition

The Lexus LX 570 is the most expensive vehicle Lexus makes, but it’s also the brand’s most capable. In this episode of “Ignition,” host Jonny Lieberman puts the SUV’s luxury and off-roading credentials to the test both on the seemingly glamorous streets of Las Vegas and in the rugged terrain of rural Utah.

The Lexus LX was significantly refreshed for 2016, now wearing the new corporate spindle grille and equipped with many additional upgrades, including a new eight-speed automatic transmission. The SUV is powered by a 5.7-liter V-8 making 383 hp and 403 lb-ft of torque and remains body-on-frame, which means the full-size three-row is still portly at 6,230 pounds. Not surprisingly, Lieberman averaged about 14 mpg on the drive to Vegas.

Though the SUV is a comfortable, large-and-in-charge luxury yacht for the road, its real party trick can only be appreciated off the strip. So Lieberman switches locales to Hurricane, Utah, and begins by demonstrating the Lexus’ ability to crawl up a steep, slippery rock face. The LX 570 is put through a number of grueling off-road tests, and proves to be tough enough to handle just about anything. But is it a better option than its mechanical twin the Toyota Land Cruiser? Watch the episode below to find out.
