McLaren 570GT MSO Gets Variable-Tint Roof, New Exhaust for Monterey

Opting for a subtler debut this year, McLaren is introducing a special 570GT at Monterey Car Week. The sports car receives special updates from McLaren’s bespoke division, MSO.

The black-and-white car uses the same 562-hp 3.8-liter twin-turbo V-8 engine as the rest of the 570GT lineup. But unlike the standard model, it features a new electro-chromic roof, which allows drivers to select between five different tints ranging from almost clear to dark. This feature will eventually be made available to McLaren customers through MSO.

The McLaren 570GT MSO concept also receives gloss carbon fiber sill panels, another understated update. Complementing the “Pearl White” paint job, a Piano Black package adds a deep gloss black finish to the wheels, side skirts, and door inserts.

Not all the changes are subtle, however. To make the car louder, or as McLaren puts it, improve the “aural experience,” the automaker has fitted this model with an MSO Exhaust made of titanium. It’s said to be 30 percent lighter than a stainless steel unit. Heat shields are finished in a gold tint, visible through the rear air ducts, which naturally transform to a bluish purple color as the system’s temperature changes.

Inside the cabin, you’ll find a 12-speaker Bowers and Wilkins Hi-Fi system and more black accents. McLaren has also added Saddle Tan upholstery that pairs nicely with some of the carbon fiber bits.

We can’t help but compare McLaren’s latest Pebble debut to the deep purple 570S coupe that debuted last year. Along with a “Mauvine Blue” paint job, the coupe also received more purple interior accents on the seats and steering wheel.

Monterey Car Week runs from August 15-21 in Monterey, Calif.
