For the second year, modern exotics got their own moment in the (marine-layer diffuse) sun on Monterey Bay’s famed Cannery Row. Name a bucks-up exotic, supercar, or hypercar from the last few decades, and it was on display in downtown Monterey.
Porsche 918
Among the million-dollar-babies on display, this is one of our favorites. A technological tour-de-force, this hybrid honey was resplendent in a bright green wrap promoting “the harmonist,” and declaring itself “fresh.” We agree.
Ferrari LaFerrari
When you pay a million-plus for a Ferrari, you can have it in whatever color you like. To prove this point, someone actually ordered this cornflower/periwinkle blue matte-finish on their LaFerrari. There’s clearly no accounting for taste…
McLaren P1
When you lay out the long green for a McLaren P1, you display it with the aero wings all the way up—especially when you’ve selected the demure and incognito fly yellow color scheme. Why not?

There were loads of exotics on Cannery Row sporting matte-finish wrap jobs, most with overlapping seams and visible edges. Yuck. If you’re going for matte, commit to the paint and agree not to machine-wash or wax it!
US Specialty Vehicles Rhino GX
What exactly is it that defines “exotic?” US Specialty Vehicles explores that question by expending exotic money tricking out a Ford F-Series Super Duty truck, turning it into what looks like an MRAP armored (Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected) SUV. US Specialty Vehicles Rhino XT
If a Ford F-Series Super Duty is too big for you, perhaps you’d be more interested in the Jeep Wrangler-based Rhino XT.
