Although the Alfa Romeo’s new premium midsize sedan hasn’t reached our shores yet, the car is proving to be a legitimate sports sedan. A new video shows the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio lapping the famed Nürburgring in just seven minutes and 32 seconds with test driver Fabio Francia behind the wheel.
That time was achieved with the optional eight-speed automatic transmission. A previous attempt with a manual-equipped car resulted in a 7:39 lap time. For reference, Porsche claims its new Panamera Turbo lapped the ‘Ring in 7:38.
The aluminum and carbon fiber intensive Giulia Quadrifoglio is said to have near 50:50 weight distribution. Power for the U.S.-spec Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio comes from a twin-turbo 2.9-lier V-6 rated at 505 hp and 443 lb-ft of torque.
Performance features inlcude the automaker’s DNA Pro system with four drive modes: Dynamic, Natural, Advanced, and Race, which features an overboost function and active exhaust system. Other performance bits include the Active Suspension system, Chassis Domain Control (CDC) system, and Integrated Braking System (IBS). An active aero front splitter can provide up to 220 pounds of downforce on the track.
Additionally, the automatic transmission is said to swap gears in as little as 150 milliseconds, which contributes to its manual-equipped beating time.
