The Aston Martin DB11 Volante convertible is due to arrive in spring 2018. The automaker revealed the news along with photos of a DB11 Volante prototype that looks pretty much ready for production.
Aston didn’t do much to disguise the drop-top prototype. For starters, the soft top is uncovered and most body panels are exposed. The haunches and trunk deck, however, have been concealed with color-matched cladding, likely hiding modifications needed to accommodate the soft top hardware. Aerodynamics should also be a top priority — as previously reported, the DB11 coupe lacks a conventional rear spoiler and instead employs what the automaker calls an Aeroblade, which is essentially an intricate network of air vents and ducts providing rear downforce.
The DB11 Volante will likely weigh a tad more than the coupe, but it won’t be slow. Expect the Volante to get the same 5.2-liter twin-turbo V-12 found in the coupe where it’s tuned to make 600 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque and is mated to an eight-speed automatic. Aston says the DB11 coupe runs from 0-60 mph in an estimated 3.9 seconds, so we don’t expect the convertible to be too far off that pace.
If you can’t wait until spring 2018 and don’t mind a permanent roof over your head, then look for the DB11 coupe to arrive in showrooms by the end of the year.
