The BMW X2 Concept made its world debut in Paris, sporting a long wheelbase, exaggerated air vents, and low-slung body. It looks quite a bit different than the model we’ve seen in spy shots.
Slotting below the current X4 and X6, the BMW X2 sports a Luminous Red paint job in concept form. It also sits on 21-inch alloy wheels wrapped with chunky-tread tires ready for “fun off the beaten track.” Large wheel arches give the concept a somewhat muscular look.
Up front, BMW has tweaked its signature double kidney grille with heavily angled bars and bold silver-colored surrounds, creating what BMW calls a “shark nose” effect. The headlights use laser light technology, and a blue “X” in the center of the hexagonal tubes provides further flourish.
Horizontal character lines and a slim rear window give the BMW X2 a wide and planted look. In the rear, BMW has also reinterpreted its “L”-shaped lights, which now take a more fluid form. Gray cladding on the bottom portion of the rear makes it appear as though the model sits higher up off the ground. Large tailpipes at both ends finish off the new look.
Small visual changes add up to a sleeker looking crossover than its brother, the X1. Despite the visual changes, we expect the BMW X2 to use the same powertrains, including the 2.0-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine that produces 228 hp here in the U.S. Judging from its brazen exterior, some of the bolder design elements of the concept will likely get toned down for the production version, which could make its way to global markets by late next year if rumors prove correct.
